How to Set up Microsoft MFA - Open Microsoft Edge and navigate to www.office.com
- Sign in in the top right hand corner, or if prompted for more information, click continue.
- If you want to use the Microsoft Authenticator App, please follow the steps below. If not, select "I want to set up a different method" at the bottom and skip to the "For the phone options" section below
- Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile phone, select Add account or the + button from the Customize and control icon in the upper-right, and then select Work or school account.
Note: If you receive a prompt asking whether to allow the app to access your camera (iOS) or to allow the app to take pictures and record video (Android). select Allow so the authenticator app can access your camera to take a picture of the QR code in the next step. If you don't allow the camera, you can still set up the authenticator app as described in Manually add an account to the app.
- Use your device's camera to scan the QR code from the Configure mobile app screen on your computer, and then choose Next.
- On your mobile device, enter the number displayed on your computer screen.
- From the App Password area, enter a name that is at least 8 Characters long, this can be anything of your choice.
- Keep the app password in a safe place as this will NOT be shown again.
- Choose another method. You can use either an alternative Authenticator app of your choice, or Phone option which has the option for SMS or Phone call.
- The authentication app is a similar set up to the Microsoft Authenticator, follow the steps above - you may need to follow instructions from your authenticator app provider.
For the phone options please see below.
- Change to United Kingdom as the default is US.
- Select either Receive a code for SMS or Call me to receive a code via a phone call.
- Enter the code in the box and select next
- Please note - you need at least one other authentication method in order to use Security Keys. To set up the security keys please visit this link and select "Add sign-in method https://account.activedirectory.windowsazure.com/proofup.aspx?proofup=1
- You can then select a method from the list and follow the onscreen instructions.
