Requirements for connecting to the NIAB Network VPN with a personal computer
- An Antivirus application must be installed
- The computer’s firewall turned on
- The computer’s OS is Windows 10 or Mac 10.15 and is patched with the most recent updates
Navigate to vpn.niab.com on your internet browser and log in with your firstname.lastname (not your X99---- or your email address) and your computer password. If you are unable to log in, contact the IT Helpdesk.
Download the agent
Please click on the relevant link to download the client software:
Most new versions of Windows such as Windows 8 or 10 will use the 64-bit version. If you have any issues with the 64-bit version then please try the 32 bit.
Install the agent
From the GlobalProtect Setup Wizard, click Next.
Click Next to accept the default installation folder
Click Next twice
After the installation successfully completes, click Close. The GlobalProtect agent will automatically start.
Log in to GlobalProtect
When prompted, enter under Portal: vpn.niab.com your user name: first.lastname (not your X99----- or your email address) and your computer password and then click Connect. If your authentication is successful, you will be connected to the NIAB network.
Mobile/tablet
The GlobalProtect Client (Palo Alto Networks) can be downloaded from the app store and the same settings above used.
Connecting from Linux
Use the "openconnect" command-line client (https://www.infradead.org/openconnect/). Install from your Linux distribution repositories, or otherwise compile & install from sourcecode. OpenConnect must be at least version 8 to work with the NIAB VPN.
Once installed, use via command-line:
sudo openconnect --protocol=gp vpn.niab.com
