How to Change Jar File Type when the device is not picking up that Java is installed

Modified on Tue, 20 Jul, 2021 at 3:23 PM

Issue:

A user has attempted to open a Jar File/ Database without Java installed, this has automatically tried to open with an Internet Browser or Notepad. You cannot then change the file type in default apps even if you install Java after.

Fix.

1. On any web browser copy and paste the following link.

http://johann.loefflmann.net/en/software/jarfix/index.html

2. On this page under solution, click Jarfix.exe and run the download.

3. Click yes to make changes to device.

4. Jar files will now open with Java, the icon may stay the same as the internet browser automatically assigned but the file will now open with Java.
